Job description
The AI Researcher Center (AIRC) of the National Institute of Advanced Industrial
Science and Technology (AIST) is a government-based research institute with the
research goal of Next generation AI technology development on AI research that
can be embedded in the real world.
We are partners in the EU-Japan collaboration project e-VITA “Joint Virtual Coaching
System for Smart Ageing” which focuses on natural language-based coaching for elder
adults to support their daily activities and well-being. The AIRC Data Knowledge Integration
Research Team is now looking for a Post-doc with a background in knowledge technologies
and conversational AI, to do research and development in the context of the work package
“Trustworthy AI, Data analysis and NLP”. The research topics and research areas concern:
– Human-centric AI
– New technology to support active healthy living
– Dialogue modelling and interactive systems
– Conversational AI
– Human-robot interaction
– Multimodal communication
– Cognitive systems
– Representation of human behaviour, emotion, feeling
– Knowledge graphs
– Graph Neural Network
– Linked data
– Natural Language Processing
Eligibility and Qualifications
The must have a Ph.D. degree and not have worked as a postdoc researcher
for more than 5 years. The candidate must have research achievements and
interest in one or more of the above mentioned topics.
Besides, it is desirable to have more than one skill/experience of the following:
– interaction management and conversation modelling
– knowledge graphs and knowledge modelling,
– multimodal sensor information for situation assessment,
– data analysis and NLP
– human-robot interaction (e.g. Nao, Furhat, and others),
– machine learning technologies (esp. deep learning)
The candidate must have excellent programming skills (Python, others), proactive
communication skills, and experience in collaborative project work such as
contributing to deliverables, paper writing, and other cooperative activities.
The candidate must be able to communicate fluently in English while knowledge
and interest in the Japanese language is a plus.
Other particulars
The successful candidate will join a large EU-Japan collaboration project
with experts from a wide area of disciplines. The place of work will be
at AIRC in Tokyo Waterfront, a vibrant part of the Tokyo Metropolis.
The appointment will start September 1 or soon afterwards, and be initially
for the end of the Japanese fiscal year. It can be extended depending on the
funding and other conditions. Salary and work conditions follow AIST regulations.
